Fairchild Television – Environment and Technology
Fairchild Television has always been confronted by challenges with new developments in information technology. In February of 2006, Fairchild Television and Talentvision invested $2.5 million on new equipment and technology to bring high quality programming home to Chinese Canadians. President of Fairchild Media Group Joe Chan expressed, ‘Currently, our television programs, including newscasts are produced digitally. Although certain overseas programs are still airing analog signals, at Fairchild Television, we will be distributing our programs to other companies and service providers via digital technology. Higher signal quality ensures higher quality service to our viewers all across Canada.”
Modern media focus highly on audience connection. Therefore, the recording studios at Fairchild Television’s head office, located at Aberdeen Center in Richmond, British Columbia, are designed to be open and accessible. The newsroom’s glass walls enable passerby’s to look into the studio and watch the processes of the program’s live production. Programs such as Leisure Talk and What’s On are recorded in studios with floor to ceiling windows, showcasing a beautiful backdrop of the city landscape. When viewers see their own city as the backdrop of the show, they are able to better relate to the programs, creating a more comfortable and personal atmosphere.
Fairchild Media Group prides itself as the largest Chinese media corporation outside of Asia. In February 2006, Fairchild Television’s Western Canadian Headquarters officially moved into its new office located in Aberdeen Center in Richmond, British Columbia. Celebrities and dignitaries were invited to visit the new headquarters and celebrate its opening. A grand opening ceremony was officiated by the Chairman and CEO of Fairchild Group, Thomas Fung, Company senior executives and representatives from the three levels of government including Minister of Public Works and Government Services Secretary, James Moore, Minister of Justice, Wally Oppal, BC Minister of Finance, Carole Taylor, and Mayor of Richmond, Malcolm Brodie. Renowned singer Pancy Lau and artiste Patrick Poon (Photo B) were present to celebrate and congratulate Fairchild Television on its new beginning.
Guests were most excited to take a tour of Fairchild’s brand new broadcasting and recording studios. Fairchild Media Group President Joe Chan and Vice President Louis Tong guided Minister of Justice, Wally Oppal (Photo C) and other guests to tour the new news-recording studio and introduced the most up-to-date broadcasting equipment. Through advanced technology, an ideal and open working environment and a family of dedicated employees, Fairchild Television had started a new chapter in media broadcasting.
Fairchild Television 2 HD
Fairchild Television had spent a lot of time and invested considerable resources into researching and developing the new HD channel to bring to viewers better quality programming that comes straight from Hong Kong. The new Fairchild Television 2 HD channel was officially launched on May 23rd 2013 offering a wide range of television programs that are broadcast in steps with Hong Kong and other programming such as variety and game shows as well as travelogues, just to name a few. Among all Asian broadcasters in North America and Europe, Fairchild Media Group was the first broadcaster to feature HD Asian programming. This achievement had been recognized and highly regarded by other Chinese stations worldwide.
