According to the dictionary, 'news' means a recent event or new occurrence. For us at Fairchild TV and Talentvision News Departments, presenting nightly newscast also means a great deal of selecting. When viewers ask, "How do you squeeze so much news into a one-hour show?". My answer typically is - we don’t, we select. This is the gist of putting together nightly news shows 24/7, every night, seven nights a week.
When we select, we always have you in mind. Our guiding light is you, our viewers. What would be the news our viewers most need to know? When the teachers decided to go on strike, we placed it our top news item because we know you care tremendously about your children’s education. If the Finance Minister decided to raise tax, we would also put it high on our agenda because it would affect your livelihood. On the same token, when a serial killer is on the loose, or grow-ops are running rampant, these news items would get in our batch as high up as possible. Again, that is because the news would affect you.
Over the years, in the daily process of putting together nightly news shows, we have the privilege of getting to know our viewers a lot better. Our news gatherers here at Fairchild TV and Talentvision newsrooms have developed a tight relationship with our viewers. You would let us know how you feel, what is affecting your lives, what you would want to know and like to know, and the most rewarding for us is when you tell us you really love what we have produced for you because our news shows really help.
