The evening started out with a medley, performed by our eight finalists alongside four former New Talent Singing Award (NTSA): 2013 Cherrina Hong, 2012 Ann Chau, 2011 Ryan Patrick Lee and 2012 Nelson Cheung.

The judging panel was comprised of music media veteran Mr. Ricky Chan, famous composer Mr. William Wu and famous singer Ms. Angela Fong. The auditor for the Singing Contest, Mr. Alexis Yam, CA, sat on the judging panel as well.

The eight finalists each then performed a song of their choice in front of the judging panel. Up first was #7 Roger Feng singing the timeless (but heartbreaking) love song “New Never Ending Love”.

An IT manager by day, #6 Betty took the stage next to sing “How Are You Willing Making Me Sad”.

#3 Cecilia Zhou & Henry Lu, the duo who was previously awarded the “Most Popular Online” Award, then took the stage and performed a wonderful mash-up of two timeless classics, “Myself” and “Reflection”.

The trilingual duo #5 Edward & Ethan Loke showed off their impressive language skills with three songs sung in three different languages: “Breaking Up Is Always In The Rain” sung in Cantonese, “On The Road, There’s Always You” sung in Mandarin, and “A Love Song For You, The Unwilling Crier” in Japanese.

#1 Frank Zhou then took the stage to perform a soulful version of “A Special Love For A Special You”, followed by #4 Ginny Kuang who delivered a beautiful rendition of “The Heart Only Likes One”.

#2 Derek Edwards got the whole audience moving and grooving with his version of the timeless classic “Monica”.

#8 Paul Sun loves to play basketball just as much as he loves singing. However, he took off his basketball shoes for one night and donned on his singing shoes and performed a snazzy rendition of “Dream Partner”.

The judges then picked the top five contestants, whom advanced to the final round. From there, the top five battled it out with one more song each before the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners were named and presented with their awards by the President of Fairchild Media Group.

In addition to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards, the Kingscross Hyundai’s Stage Glamour Award and Canada Dry Ginger Ale’s Best Vocal Award was awarded that evening to the singer with the best stage presence and the best voice (respectively).

Our 8 finalists have entered the final stages of preparation and are excited to show everyone what they have been working hard on.

After two months of vigorous training and guidance under our star instructors, our eight finalists went under a complete makeover and made their public debut on July 14th at First Markham Place. Fans were able to get an up-close experience with their favorite contestants, and also had the chance to play games to win some great prizes!

The auditor for the Singing Contest, Mr. Alexis Yam, CA, Music Director Steven Ly and Image Consultant Jaycow were also present to help cheer on our finalists.

That evening, the award for “Most Popular Online” was awarded to #3 Cecilia Choi and Henry Lu.

The contestants each chose and invited a fan to participate in a “Guess The Song” challenge, where the first fan to correctly guess three songs wins a pair of tickets to the July 29th show at the John Basset Theatre in Downtown Toronto. The challenge was split into two parts: contestants #1 through #4 played first, followed by contestants #5 through #8.

The contestants, fans and everyone in the audience racked their brains as they raced against each other to be the first to guess the names to tunes from the 80’s and 90’s.  The winner for the first part of the game was the fan chosen by Frank Zhou. The winner for the second part of the game was the fan chosen by Edward & Ethan Loke.

“Those Days‧These Songs” Singing Competition: “Moments with the Finalists” was also streamed live through Facebook for those who were unable to attend the event in person but wanted to be a part of that evening’s festivities.

The final round for “Those Days‧These Songs” will be held on July 29th at 8pm in downtown Toronto at the John Basset Theatre. Our eight finalists will battle it out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
