Writer/Researcher (Full-time, Cantonese)

Fairchild Television is seeking a high caliber candidate to fill the Writer/Researcher position in Toronto. We are looking for a research writer who can write and produce compelling features for the current affairs program “Timeline Magazine”. Experience in reporting and production work is desirable, as are language skills relevant to the job.

Administration/HR Manager

Fairchild Television Ltd. is a national television station with offices in the GTA, Vancouver and Calgary. We have been providing Chinese Canadians across the country with television programming in the Cantonese and Mandarin languages for over 25 years. We are seeking an experienced Administration/HR Manager for its Eastern Division located at Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage human resources including but not limited to recruitment, employment, orientation, staff welfare/activities, and employment equity;
  • Handle office accommodation, leasing and renovation issues;
  • Develop, review, and improve administrative systems, policies, and procedures;
  • Arrange maintenance of office equipment, telephones, heating, air-conditioning & company vehicles etc.;
  • Support and work with in-house/contract IT specialists;
  • Work with accounting and management team to set budgets, monitor spending, and processing payroll and reimbursements;
  • Prepare minutes of meetings;
  • Supervise administrative staff and oversee daily office administrative tasks;
  • Assist in workplace health and safety issues;
  • Liaise with regulatory/government officers, landlord, contractors as needed;
  • Provide ad hoc assistance in station live shows, events and functions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in related field, such as management or financial reporting.
  • Familiar with Canada Labour Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Strong written communication skills in English and Chinese, and fluency in spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good initiative and problem solving skills with commonsense.
  • Ability to handle assignments independently/with minimum supervision.
  • -Adaptable, flexible and detail-oriented.
  • Team player.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and have access to vehicle

Tenure and Hours
Permanent and full time (40 hours per week).
